Anna Castañeda Rojas

My name is Anna Castañeda Rojas (formerly Anna Keller). I am a professor of English at CUNY, a freelance writer, and a private educator. I offer in-person and remote sessions for creative writing, ELA, and executive functioning skills for adults and children who have been diagnosed with specific learning disabilities. I also work with college level students on essay writing, thesis, dissertations, personal statements, and scholarship letters.

I’m currently available for consulting engagements.

After graduating with an Associate’s degree in Mental Health and Human Services, I became aware that storytelling is a crucial component for positive mental health. I returned to school and graduated with a B.A. and an M.A. in English. Within the six years I earned my degrees, I had three children, taught college level courses on a variety of topics, and published articles across a wide swath of media outlets. I communicate on a daily basis with students from all over the world and I am committed to helping them write beautifully and communicate effectively.

Teaching Philosophy

Due to a turbulent past with my own educational foundation at a young age, I make it my duty to take a holistic approach when focusing on my students. Every student is an individual, and every student has unique, educational needs. As a professor and private home tutor, I practice self-awareness, deep listening, and I focus on the whole person.

Freelance Writing

My freelance writing focuses on relationships, motherhood, religion, spirituality, and family. The stories that interest me most are multicultural and multifaceted tales that everyone can relate to on a basic human level. My work has been published with 18 Doors, Park Slope Reader, Kveller, Brooklyn Magazine, The Forward, and Girl God Books.

Private Sessions/Private Classes

Private sessions are remote and I work with students on a variety of topics such as test prep, essay writing, business letters, scholarship essays, and research papers. I also host one-on-one sessions for Spanish learners, early ELA education, and executive functioning skills. My private courses are six weeks long, and meet once a week.

Today, I am at work on a memoir and fiction novel. I am also researching for a project about learning differences, education, and the public school system. I am an active participant in writing conferences across the country.
